Phillies vs. Dodgers Prediction: Game 4 NLDS Preview

  • Get MLB picks and analysis for Phillies vs. Dodgers.
  • The Dodgers are -130 favorites in Game 4.
  • Los Angeles is -325 to win the NLDS.

The Philadelphia Phillies will try to stave off elimination for the second straight night when they face the Los Angeles Dodgers at 6:08 p.m. ET on Thursday at Dodger Stadium on TBS.

After dropping both home games to start the NLDS, the Philliesโ€™ bats woke up in their 8-2 win in Wednesdayโ€™s Game 3. Kyle Schwarber hit a pair of blasts, and Philadelphia scored five runs in the eighth inning, four of which came off reliever Clayton Kershaw.

Can the Phillies force a Game 5 back home this weekend? Los Angeles is a short favorite, sending Tyler Glasnow (4-3, 3.19 ERA) to the mound to face Philadelphiaโ€™s Cristopher Sรกnchez (13-5, 2.50) in a rare afternoon game in Los Angeles.

Hereโ€™s a look at the latest MLB odds and my Phillies vs. Dodgers prediction ahead of Game 4:

Phillies vs. Dodgers Prediction for Game 4

My favorite Phillies vs. Dodgers prediction is the over for Thursdayโ€™s Game 4 of the NLDS. Iโ€™m on the over at 7.5, but I would play this up to eight in this matchup.

A day game in Los Angeles could lead to more favorable conditions from an offensive standpoint. Ballpark Palโ€™s model projects a 16% increase in potential home runs, forecasting the wind to blow out.

Thatโ€™s great news for a Phillies team that finally found a rhythm offensively in Game 3. Philadelphia ranked second in baseball in batting average and fourth in slugging percentage during this regular season. When this offense is in full swing, it can be tough to slow down.

The same is true for the defending champions. The Dodgers ranked second in the majors with a wRC+ of 113 during the regular season. They were third in the same metric with their 111 clip against left-handed pitchers.

Sรกnchez, a southpaw, struggles a bit more on the road compared to at home. He gave up four runs on seven hits across seven innings against the Dodgers in Los Angeles on Sept. 16. His career ERA at home is 2.75, but jumps up to 3.93 on the road.

Iโ€™m guessing that the Dodgers will prevail in Game 4 to punch their ticket to the NLCS, but I have more confidence in this being a high-scoring affair.

Prediction: Over 8 (-102)
