  • Under 78.5 wins: -105

Pirates Win Total Prediction 2026

  • Over 77.5 wins (Pick made Feb. 19)

According to the updated MLB betting lines, I like the over on the Pirates’ win total for the 2026 season.

After a busy offseason, the Pirates have put themselves in a position to have one of their best campaigns in quite some time. They haven’t won more than 76 games since 2018, but the market clearly believes things will change in 2026.

Pittsburgh prioritized offensive additions in the offseason. The Pirates traded for second baseman Brandon Lowe from the Tampa Bay Rays, while also adding outfielders Jhostynxon Garcia and Jake Mangum via trade.

In free agency, the Pirates signed Ryan O’Hearn and Marcell Ozuna to provide some thump in the middle of the order. All of a sudden, Pittsburgh’s lineup looks more competent after ranking last in total runs scored last year.

The Pirates don’t need to be elite on offense. They just need to score enough to support a potent pitching staff.

Paul Skenes established himself as the best pitcher in the National League last year, winning his first Cy Young trophy with a 1.97 ERA and 216 strikeouts in 32 starts. This comes after an impressive Rookie of the Year campaign in 2024.

With Skenes leading the way, the Pirates’ rotation ranks eighth in all of baseball, per RosterResource on FanGraphs. Mitch Keller, Bubba Chandler, Braxton Ashcraft, and Jared Jones (when he returns from injury) make up a strong group of hurlers.

If the Pirates can score enough runs, they figure to be frisky this year. ATC, a composite projection system at FanGraphs, has Pittsburgh winning 84 games and soaring past its preseason over/under.
