Four MLB managers have at least 2,500 career wins, though none of the four is an active manager for the 2023 season.

Only one of the managers in the top 10 career wins list is currently in the major leagues.

1. Dusty Baker – Astros

Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker has been around the block, managing multiple teams throughout his career. Baker began as a manager with the San Francisco Giants in 1993 and has been manager of five teams. Baker helped the Astros stay in the running to defend their AL West crown, leading them to four victories over the last week.

2. Bruce Bochy – Rangers

Bruce Bochy returned as a manager in 2023, now the bench boss for the Texas Rangers. His most famous tenure came with the San Francisco Giants from 2007 to 2019, where he led them to three World Series victories. The Rangers are still on top of the AL West, and Bochy deserves high praise for that feat. Four more wins over the last week were added to Bochy’s record.

3. Terry Francona – Guardians

Terry Francona was the Boston Red Sox’s longtime manager, helping break the curse in 2004 when the Red Sox won their first World Series since 1918. Since 2013, Francona has managed the Cleveland Guardians. It’s been a tough two months for the Guardians, but Francona added three more victories to his career total over the previous week.

4. Buck Showalter – Mets

The 66-year-old Buck Showalter is managing his fifth team, the New York Mets. Previously, Showalter led the New York Yankees, Arizona Diamondbacks, Texas Rangers, and Baltimore Orioles. The Mets are in win-now mode, and Showalter can take them to the promised lands, but they only won twice over the last week.

5. Bob Melvin – Padres

Bob Melvin helped lead the Arizona Diamondbacks to a World Series victory in 2001. Melvin now manages the San Diego Padres but has managed three other teams throughout his career. It’s been a struggle for the talented Padres, which saw Melvin add three more victories to his resume over the last week.

6. Bud Black – Rockies

Former National League Manager of the Year with the Padres, Bud Black, has found a new home with the Colorado Rockies. Black has two World Series titles (1985 and 2002) but finds himself with a rebuilding Rockies in 2023. There’s not much to like about the Rockies as a whole, but Black has them playing well of late, adding five more victories to his career win total.

7. A.J. Hinch – Tigers

It was a controversial win, but A.J. Hinch captured the World Series with the 2017 Houston Astros. Many were unsure if he’d manage again, but he signed a deal with the Detroit Tigers in 2021. Hinch has the Tigers relatively competitive in a poor AL Central division. He won five games over the last week.

8. Dave Roberts – Dodgers

Dave Roberts has found great success managing the Los Angeles Dodgers. He won a World Series as a player with the Red Sox in 2004 before capturing his first as a manager in 2020 with the Dodgers. Roberts has helped LA to become one of the most feared teams in the league over the last month, adding three more wins to his resume over the last week.

9. Kevin Cash – Rays

The Tampa Bay Rays are Kevin Cash’s first managerial job, where he has won back-to-back AL Manager of the Year awards (2020 and 2021). Cash has been a significant part of the Rays’ success this season, leading them to the best record in baseball. Cash has the Rays with the best record in the league, tallying five more victories over the last week and closing the gap between him and Dave Roberts.

10. Craig Counsell – Brewers

Craig Counsell has managed nearly 1200 games in MLB, all of which have come with the Milwaukee Brewers. Counsell won two World Series titles (1997 and 2001) as a player but is still looking for his first as a manager. Counsell and the Brewers have managed to stay on top of the NL Central but only added three more victories to his career total over the last week.
