Red Sox vs. Yankees Prediction: Game 2 AL Wild Card Preview

Postseason Betting Promos

The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees will meet in Game 2 of the 2026 AL Wild Card at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday at Yankee Stadium in New York on Peacock. Baseball fans hope for a more competitive matchup after the Yankees’ 9-0 win on Tuesday.

Check out my Red Sox vs. Yankees prediction based on the latest MLB odds:

Red Sox vs. Yankees Prediction for Game 2 AL Wild Card

  • No run in the first inning (-140)

In what should be another low-scoring rivalry matchup, I like the under on 0.5 runs scored in the first inning for Game 2 of the AL Wild Card.

Game 1 began as a pitcher’s duel between New York’s Cam Schlittler and Boston’s Payton Tolle. Only two runs scored in the first six innings, none in the opening frame. The Yankees didn’t break things open until they scored five in the eighth.

With a pair of veteran hurlers set to take the mound on Wednesday, don’t be surprised if Game 2 follows a similar script.

Left-hander Max Fried will start for the Yankees after recording a 5-5 clip with a 2.80 ERA in 20 starts during the regular season. He’s extremely good at inducing soft contact, which shouldn’t be a problem against a Red Sox lineup that scored the fewest runs in baseball in September.

I’m also skeptical the Yankees can replicate their offensive effort from the opener. This lineup has ranked last in the majors in on-base percentage since Aaron Judge landed on the injured list on June 1.

Sonny Gray gets the nod for the Red Sox, coming off an impressive regular season. Gray finished 18-5 with a 2.72 ERA, including two starts against the Yankees in which he allowed three earned runs.

I’ll back both pitchers and fade each lineup early in Game 2.

Prediction: Under 0.5 runs in the first inning (-140)
