The Chicago White Sox have a chance to win their first playoff series since 2005 when they face the Houston Astros in Game 2 of the AL Wild Card at 5 p.m. ET on Wednesday at Daikin Park in Houston on Peacock. Chicago earned a 6-3 victory in Game 1.
Read on for my White Sox vs. Astros prediction based on the latest MLB odds:
White Sox vs. Astros Prediction for Game 2 AL Wild Card
- Under 7.5 (-110)
I prefer the under on the full-game total at 7.5 for my White Sox vs. Astros prediction. I also like the under on four total runs for the first five innings.
Both teams utilized a bullpen game in Tuesday’s opener, which just finished over the closing total. But both teams will now turn to a reliable starter in Game 2.
Hunter Brown will get the nod for the Astros, tasked with keeping their season alive. He went 6-4 with a 3.19 ERA in 20 regular-season starts. He gave up two runs or fewer in 12 different outings.
Brown’s outs prop will likely be listed around 14.5, which could be an interesting way to back the right-hander. Typically, teams give starters a shorter leash with their season on the line. However, the Astros likely have few bullpen options better than Brown.
As for the White Sox, right-hander Sean Burke will get the nod. He went 11-7 with a 3.34 ERA in the regular season, striking out 185 batters in 172 1/3 innings. Burke has allowed one run or fewer in all but one start this month.
If both starters can set the tone, I like the chances of this game finishing under the total.
Prediction: Under 7.5 (-110)
