The 2022 Major League Baseball All-Star Break is upon us, which means it’s Home Run Derby time.
Or, rather, it was Home Run Derby time. The annual competition took place on Monday night, with the BetMGM online sportsbook providing classic MLB odds on the eight contestants.
Who Won the 2022 Home Run Derby?
Nationals outfielder Juan Soto defeated Mariners outfielder Julio Rodriguez in the final round of the 2022 Home Run Derby.
During their head-to-head championship matchup, Rodriguez batted first, hitting 18 home runs in the allotted time frame. Soto hit his 19th with half of his bonus time remaining.
Mets slugger Pete Alonso won each of the last two Derbies, which means the trophy will remain with a National League East player for another year.

Juan Soto won the Derby partly because he had the most favorable path. Rodriguez hit a monstrous 81 bombs; Soto didn’t need to because he batted second and faced lesser competition.

Alonso was a big favorite to cap off his 3-Pete in the Home Run Derby odds market.
Alonso was +155 before the start of the Derby and had nearly 40% of the market handle at BetMGM.
Soto, which about 20% of the raw ticket market had backed, paid off bettors at 6-to-1.

Singer-songwriter Conan Gray sang the national anthem at the 2022 Home Run Derby, which almost instantly became one of the most memorable parts of the evening.
