Which Kinds of Football Bets Are the Most Popular?

As a longtime NFL and college football bettor, I’m often curious about the kinds of wagers other bettors are making.

Fortunately, I went to work with BetMGM a few years ago, and so I now have access to data about the betting habits of thousands of people. I do my best to share that information with other bettors, who are similarly curious.

Here were the most popular football betting markets at BetMGM in 2025:

Point Spread

Unless you’re new to online sports betting, this shouldn’t surprise you. The point spread market is the No. 1 most popular way to bet a football game.

Moneyline

Moneylines are simple, chalky, and easy to throw into parlays. This is another popular option that shouldn’t surprise anyone.

Total

The total is the other remaining option in the standard six-pack odds market, so it makes sense that it’s the third-most popular betting market for football fans behind spreads and moneylines.

Any Time Touchdown

This is where the list really starts. With the obvious popular targets now accounted for, the next-most popular option is the Any Time Touchdown (ATTD) market. 

And again, this makes some sense – especially for NFL bettors. People like to bet on players who will find the end zone. Fantasy football probably adds more fuel to this market, too.

An important rule to remember for new sports bettors: passing touchdowns trigger a successful ATTD bet for the player making the catch, but not the player who made the throw. 

Multi-Touchdown

This was a little bit of a surprise for me, as I expected First Touchdown to come next. But more bettors actually prefer to bet on specific players having a big-game explosion, going off for multiple touchdowns. 

Jahmyr Gibbs, Jonathan Taylor, Derrick Henry, and Josh Allen each had five multi-touchdown games in 2025. Favorable player matchups and lucrative prop odds ultimately drive the popularity of this bet. 

First Touchdown

Many bettors like to supplement their ATTD bets with first touchdown bets, since they’re correlated outcomes and the latter comes with a richer return. 

Player to Reach Milestone Receiving Yards

This was an interesting element on the list. Online sportsbooks offer traditional over/under props for receiving yards, but they also offer similar props that read like:

Will X Player Record at Least 60 Receiving Yards?

Functionally, this is often a one-way market for soft overs, since “Yes” may be the only option available to bet. But overs are by far the more popular prop option anyway, and these milestone bets make natural legs for same-game parlays. No wonder they appear on this list.

Over/Under Receiving Yards

For those of us that like to bet unders, here’s your traditional prop totals for receiving yards. Who knew wide receiver props were so dominant in the market?

Over/Under Receptions

Evidently, this truly is the age of the wide receiver. Note that this market is for receptions – not receiving yards – making it a distinct market from the previous entry.

Player to Reach Milestone Passing Yards

At the end of the top 10 list, we finally find a natural quarterback prop. I can’t believe how relatively unpopular these are! I personally love betting passing props.
