First, thereโs the history. This tournament only became known as National Bank Open in 2021 โ before that, it was the Rogers Cup.ย
For much of its history โ which dates back all the way to the 19th century โ it was known as the Canadian Open, or the Canadian national championships.
National Bank Open is a joint tour event, meaning thereโs a menโs draw and a womenโs draw. But unlike most other tournaments, Canada splits its tours between two completely different venues.ย
This year, the menโs tour (ATP) will play in Montreal, while the womenโs tour (WTA) is in Toronto. The venues flip every year, which means the men will be back in Toronto next year and the women will be in Montreal.ย
