NBA Coach of the Year Odds 2021-22

With a healthy lineup and new additions to the team, Steve Kerr of the Golden States Warriors and Billy Donovan of the Chicago Bulls are leading the NBA Coach of the Year odds for the 2021-22 season. But the coaching brilliance of Monty Williams for Phoenix continues as he makes a strong case to bring home the award.

Steve Kerr – Golden State Warriors

Steve Kerr’s first year as a head coach was a dream run after the Golden State Warriors captured the title in 2015. His coaching wonders were no fluke as he helped them reach the NBA Finals for four more seasons preceding the title run, adding two more championships in the Bay Area. 

Kerr might have taken a step back the past two seasons due to key injuries, but with an almost healthy lineup these days, he is reasserting himself as one of the premier coaches around the league. 

Kerr and the Warriors are holding the best record in the NBA currently with 19 wins and 4 losses. This is one of their best starts since setting the 73-9 record in 2016, the same year he also won the award.

Monty Williams – Phoenix Suns

Next is Phoenix’s head coach, Monty Williams, who led his team to the longest winning streak in franchise history at 18 before Golden State snapped it last week. Going into his third season as the Suns’ head coach, Williams is trying to repeat their success last year where they ended up as the second seed in the Western Conference with a record of 51 wins and 21 losses.

They also reached the NBA Finals before falling short against the Milwaukee Bucks, 4-2. The reunion of Williams and superstar point guard Chris Paul in the Valley has refreshed the franchise, enabling them to be a top contender in the league. If the 50-year old tactician could generate more victories this season compared to last year, then we might see him win his first-ever award.

Billy Donovan – Chicago Bulls

After his five-year tenure with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Billy Donovan is taking his coaching genius to the rejuvenated Chicago Bulls franchise. 

His initial year with the Bulls can be tagged as a feel-out season as they managed to tally a respectable record of 31-41. At the latter part of the season, they pulled off a huge trade to acquire Nikola Vucevic to pair with Zach LaVine.

Then in the offseason, they signed DeMar DeRozan, Lonzo Ball and Alex Caruso to complete the rebuild. Now, Donovan and the Bulls matched the best start of the franchise since the 1996-97 season with 4-0 in the first four games. They have a good grip of the second seed in the Eastern Conference with 16 wins and 8 losses. If Chicago can sustain the fine play, Donovan might be on his way to winning the Coach of the Year Award.
