The Phoenix Suns made it all the way to the NBA Finals a year ago and will look to get over the hump this year as they entered the postseason with the best NBA odds to win the championship.

This is a dangerous team that presents a lot of challenges for their opposition, with an elite defense and stars that are able to contribute and get the job done when the games matter most. Look no further than Chris Paul’s 30-point game-one performance against New Orleans.

The Suns’ attempt to win an NBA Championship won’t come without challenges though, specifically the team that won it all last season, the Milwaukee Bucks.

The Suns, Bucks, Golden State Warriors, Boston Celtics, and Miami Heat have the highest current NBA championship odds.

Phoenix appeared to have a clear path to the NBA Finals, more so than any team in the Eastern Conference at least, until we’ve seen what the Warriors have done early on in the postseason.

Golden State opened the year at +1200 and now sits at just +500 after taking a 2-0 series lead against Denver.

Some of the largest line movement stems from the Suns though, who opened the year at +1400 and have since climbed all the way to +200. Meanwhile, the Celtics opened the campaign at +4000 and now are all the way up to +800.

The Memphis Grizzlies finished as the second seed in the Western Conference, but it’s hard to say that was the expectation as they headed into the year at +15000 and currently boast odds at +2000. As a result of the line movement, the Grizzlies, along with the Suns and Warriors all consist of the largest liabilities.

In terms of the ticket and handle percentages, the Suns lead both categories at 26.5% and 30.9%.

Both of those numbers are over double and almost triple the next highest percentages for each category. A lot of that likely has to do with the Eastern Conference being much more wide open, but there are still some teams out West that can give the Suns problems on their path back to the NBA Finals.

Looking back to the ticket percentages, following the Suns are the Warriors at 11.2%, and the Bucks at 10.6%. The Warriors are getting a lot of love with the return of Klay Thompson and the emergence of Jordan Poole, who have given Golden State plenty of scoring options in their high-paced offense.

Until a team is able to knock out the Bucks, they’ll still be considered as formidable an opponent as any.

Led by Giannis Antetokounmpo, it’s hard to see a team that wants to get in the way of him or the defensive prowess of Jrue Holiday or the sharpshooting ability of Khris Middleton.

The Warriors also emerged with the second-highest handle as well, where they come in at 13.1%, followed by the third-place Brooklyn Nets at 10.1%.
