Lakers vs. Spurs Prediction: NBA Preview for Wednesday (Jan. 7)

The Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs will clash for a Western Conference showdown at 9:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday in Frost Bank Center on ESPN.

Victor Wembanyama returned from injury on Tuesday, scoring 30 points in 21 minutes. He will likely remain on a minutes restriction, while the Lakers could be without LeBron James (potential rest) on the second night of back-to-back.

Lakers vs. Spurs Prediction: Wednesday, Jan. 7

  • Deandre Ayton under 24.5 points + rebounds (-120)

Based on the current NBA betting lines, I like the under on Deandre Ayton’s points and rebounds combo prop (24.5) as my Lakers vs. Spurs prediction on Wednesday.

Ayton cleared this number last night, finishing with 18 points and 11 rebounds in 32 minutes against the New Orleans Pelicans. However, the Spurs are a much tougher matchup for opposing centers.

According to Props Madness, San Antonio ranks sixth in rim defense and ninth in rebounds allowed. The Spurs are 10th in defensive rating, a mark that improves when Wembanyama is on the floor.

For comparison, New Orleans ranks 28th in defensive rating and 29th in rim defense. There is a reason why Ayton was able to snap a streak of six consecutive games of finishing under this combo line last night against the Pelicans.

That said, Ayton has only cleared this combo line twice in the past 11 outings since Dec. 5. He’s failed to finish over this number in 17 of his 30 contests this season.

If James is available, I’d expect Ayton’s points and rebounds line to drop a bit. Either way, I think it’s a tad inflated for my Lakers vs. Spurs prediction.

Prediction: Deandre Ayton under 24.5 points + rebounds (-120)
