Technical fouls are almost never a good thing, and most NBA players generally try to avoid them at all costs.

Nevertheless, if those techs start to pile up, the league automatically takes action.

How Many Technical Fouls Can an NBA Player Get Before Being Suspended?

During the regular season, NBA players are punished with a one-game suspension and a $5,000 fine after receiving a 16th technical foul.

They receive an additional $5,000 fine and an additional one-game suspension for every two technical fouls received after that.

Technical fouls are reset before the playoffs begin.ย 

How Many Technical Fouls Can an NBA Player Get During the Playoffs?

During the playoffs, NBA players receive a one-game suspension and a $5,000 fine after their seventh technical foul of the playoff season.

Additional suspensions and fines follow for every two technical fouls received after that.
