Spurs vs. Thunder Prediction: Game 2 Western Conference Finals

BetMGM OfferBetting Promos

After a double-overtime thriller in Game 1, the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder will have a tough act to follow in Wednesday’s Game 2. Tipoff is 8:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday at the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City on NBC.

Oklahoma City is a 6.5-point favorite after losing its first game of the postseason. Check out my Spurs vs. Thunder prediction based on the latest NBA odds for Game 2:

Spurs vs. Thunder Prediction: Game 2 on May 20

  • Thunder -6.5 (-110)

I’m counting on a bounce-back performance from the defending champs, which is why I’d be willing to lay the 6.5-point spread for my Spurs vs. Thunder prediction in Game 2.

This spread remains the same after San Antonio won outright as a 6.5-point underdog in Game 1. The Spurs controlled the matchup for much of the night, but needed some late-game theatrics and some heroics from Victor Wembanyama to ultimately prevail.

I don’t know if the Thunder will ever have an answer for Wembanyama, but I know they could play better than they did on Monday.

Two-time MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was held to 24 points on 7-of-23 shooting. Chet Holmgren finished with eight points, while Jalen Williams went 11-for-25 from the floor in his first game back from injury. It seems unlikely that Oklahoma City’s trio will play like that again.

The Thunder never dropped back-to-back games in last year’s playoff run. They had an average margin of victory of 16.7 points in the seven instances when they were coming off a loss, including a 16-point victory after dropping Game 1 of the NBA Finals and a 43-point win following their series-opening loss to the Denver Nuggets.

In addition, the Spurs are likely gassed after exerting so much energy on the road. Wembanyama played a season-high 48 minutes in the opener, so it’s unclear how much he has in the tank after one day of rest.

I could see this one getting away from the Spurs before they head back to San Antonio, so I’ll lay the points in Game 2.

Prediction: Thunder -6.5 (-110)

Spurs vs. Thunder Odds for Game 2
