If the nonconference portion of the season belonged to Michigan, and Arizona owned January, then it was Duke that conquered February. The Blue Devils earned a statement win against No. 1 Michigan on Feb. 21. Over the past week, they rolled over Virginia and NC State – both tournament teams – by a combined 55 points. Their only loss was a one-possession road game at rival North Carolina.
Duke basketball odds have been a popular target since the preseason, when the team was expected to make a return trip to the Final Four and compete for a title. But as the final data points for the NCAA Tournament are being locked in, Duke is seeing a surge in betting activity.
As of March 2, a healthy 9.3% of all BetMGM’s college basketball futures tickets are on Duke to win the national championship.
That’s still behind Michigan, which leads the market with 12.4% of tickets and 13% of handle. But Duke betting action has now seen some separation from other popular teams like Arizona and UConn, which are down in the 6% range as of this writing.
If Duke cruises through the ACC Tournament without much resistance, Duke’s ticket splits may even challenge Michigan.
