March Madness fans are closely tracking the Miami (OH) RedHawks, who just completed the first undefeated college basketball regular season in five years.
But Miami has won some close games. Like, a lot of close games.
Eight were one-possession games. Four went to overtime.
Miami has been both lucky and good, which has led to some softness in the college basketball betting markets. Currently, the Akron Zips are an odds-on favorite to win the 2026 MAC Tournament, with Miami priced all the way up at +225.
That’s a pretty clear indicator that Miami could very well lose its undefeated status this week.
Miami beat Akron 76-73 in a home game back in January. They haven’t played since.
I asked the BetMGM online sportsbook to price Miami in the March Madness odds market, and enough people bet Miami at 1000-to-1 that it’s now the No. 2 financial liability in the national championship futures book, as of March 9.
But that same market also says Miami is unlikely to win its conference tournament, which would leave its ultimate NCAA Tournament fate to the committee.
The RedHawks are officially the most interesting team of the week.
