For the fourth straight year, the SEC earned the most bids in the NCAA men’s basketball Tournament.Â
The SEC earned 10 of the 68 spots in this year’s field, topping the Big Ten (9), Big 12 (8), and ACC (8).Â
That’s not quite as good as last year, when the conference set the record for the most-ever NCAA Tournament teams from one conference. But hey, you can’t set all-time records every year.
There are reasons to be skeptical of this 2026 crop of tournament teams, though.Â
Last year, it was obvious the SEC was the deepest and best conference in college basketball. This year, there wasn’t much top-end depth beyond Florida, and many of the middle-of-the-pack squads look very beatable.Â
Don’t be surprised if several SEC teams flame out after their first game. That could be some consolation for non-SEC fans tracking conference records in the NCAA Tournament.Â
