Villanova vs. Kansas Analysis
This number would be sitting around 2.5 or 3 if Villanova had second-leading scorer Justin Moore for this matchup. The Big East second-teamer tore his Achilles late in their victory over Houston in the Elite Eight which leaves a shallow rotation for head coach Jay Wright in serious peril.
With freshman Jordan Longino also hurt, it’ll be junior Bryan Antoine’s chance to step up and it’s tough to picture him having a strong outing in what will be his first career start on such a massive stage.
It’ll be a tug of war for pace in this one as the Jayhawks will look to push the tempo while the Wildcats are deliberate in their halfcourt sets.
Against teams that rank lower than 300th in tempo, Kansas is 5-1 while Villanova is just 3-2 in the five games they played against teams with a faster pace than the Jayhawks. That could play a serious factor in this matchup.
Kansas just has more talent and offensive firepower.
The Wildcats are incredibly methodical, smart, and mature which has gotten them this far, but the Jayhawks match them in experience while seriously giving them issues in athleticism and shotmaking ability.
