Will Seton Hall Make the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament?

Seton Hall is pushing toward the NCAA Tournament, but the Pirates still probably need a signature win to get them over the hump and into the field.

Fortunately, Seton Hall will play two of its final three regular-season games against UConn and St. John’s.

A win against either opponent would suddenly make the Pirates a real contender for a First Four bid.

Seton Hall March Madness: Last Season

Seton Hall’s last appearance in the NCAA Tournament was in 2022. The Pirates were snubbed in 2024, finishing the Big East tournament with a 20-12 record. They went on to win the NIT.

Seton Hall Tournament Prediction

I am predicting that Seton Hall will miss the NCAA Tournament.

Seton Hall played both the Huskies and Johnnies within five points in earlier meetings this season. The team’s best chance to crack the field will come in the regular-season finale, when it hosts St. John’s across the river in Newark.

But if they don’t get a win in either, it would take a dramatic run in the Big East tournament to overcome their lack of top-tier wins. This year’s bubble is just too crowded for Seton Hall to get lucky and coast into the tournament without a better resume.

Seton Hall In the Final Four

It’s been a long time since the Pirates had a deep tournament run. The height of Seton Hall basketball came in the late 1980s and 1990s, when head coach PJ Carlesimo regularly took the program into the second week of the tournament.

The height was 1989, when Seton Hall got to the Final Four and eventually played (and lost to) Steve Fisher’s Michigan team in the national title game.

The lack of modern tournament success has led to some very long prices in the futures markets – assuming they appear at all.

Seton Hall basketball odds are not currently priced in BetMGM’s March Madness odds market, but that will change quickly if the Pirates can wiggle their way into the NCAA Tournament.
