Fans of the FCS level have often wondered: If we were able to combine all of the top NFL players who came from FCS schools, how good would that NFL roster be? Well, we put together a 2020 NFL All-Pro Team doing exactly that, and while we aren’t going to be bold and predict this group would win a Super Bowl, if you look up and down this “roster”, you have to admit things might be interesting. What would the NFL odds be?
Carson Wentz had his worst year as a professional, but in general, his career has been above average. He had the best year among NFL-from-the-FCS signal-callers. There were several key offensive playmakers, including rookie RB James Robinson of the Jacksonville Jaguars. His team may not have been good this year, but Robinson was still a 1,000-yard back after showcasing his talents last year in the FCS playoffs with Illinois State.
On defense, the linebacking corps and secondary are especially strong for the FCS unit. Nobody would argue with Darius Leonard (S.C. State) or rookie Jeremy Chinn (Southern Illinois) at linebacker. And how about Taron Johnson (Weber State) after his 101 yard interception return for a touchdown for the Bills in the playoffs? Three Delaware products occupy defensive positions on this list.
And special teams? Why is it not surprising that FCS products not only embrace the often-overlooked unit of football but flourish? This is the blue-collar part of NFL football, the landing spot of the unsung hero and could be a needle-mover for football lines. Not surprisingly? FCS products do well there.
This past season’s leading tackler in the NFL for special teams came from the FCS (George Odom/Central Arkansas/Colts), and Jason Myers (Marist/Seahawks) went 24-for-24 on field goals. There are also Pro Bowlers at returner (Andre Roberts/The Citadel/Bills) and long snapper (Tyler Ott/Harvard/Seahawks).
How well would this team fare? That’s up to you. What would the NFL betting lines be if this team were to take the field, and would you partake? Take a look:
