When the San Francisco 49ers traded two first-round picks to the Miami Dolphins for the No. 3 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and the right to select the quarterback leftovers of the Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Jets, we didn’t know which quarterback the 49ers were chasing.
While rumors of varying validity and confidence have swirled in the four weeks since that deal, ultimately, we don’t know the 49ers’ preference for Mac Jones, Justin Fields, or Trey Lance.
The NFL Draft odds for the No. 3 pick have reflected that uncertainty, especially compared to overwhelming odds for Trevor Lawrence at No. 1 (-10000) and Zach Wilson at No. 2 (-2500). And for four weeks, (as noted here and on the April 15 episode of High Motor by BetMGM), Lance has held the most value for that bet.
Let’s say you like Lance at No. 3 but didn’t take him at +450 two weeks ago and are now skeptical of value at, as of Monday, April 26, +190. And you don’t have interest in Jones at -225 or Fields at +700.
You could still bet $10 on Lance at No. 3 for a nice payout of $29. Or you could bet $10 on Lance at No. 3 for a nice payout of $39 … on an almost identical bet.
In the “Other” section of BetMGM NFL Draft Specials, you can bet on the exact outcome of the first, second, and third picks. And with Trevor Lawrence a lock at No. 1 and Zach Wilson a near-lock at No. 2, the bet is Trey Lance at No. 3 for all intents and purposes. By adding Lawrence and Wilson, your vig is bumped by +100.
On Monday’s episode of High Motor by BetMGM, after Thor Nystrom’s NFL Draft preview, we discussed the Lawrence-Wilson-Lance bet and nearly 20 other draft props we like.
