NFL Football Odds: Arizona Cardinals and Detroit Lions in Week 8

By Week 8 of the NFL season, most teams usually have their first win and first loss. But, sometimes, teams find themselves in the uniquely great position of still being undefeated or in a uniquely challenging season still searching for their first win.

The Arizona Cardinals (7-0) and the Detroit Lions (0-7) happen to fill each of those roles, respectively, in the 2021 season. BetMGM’s current NFL odds have the Lions at +700 odds to go 0-17 this season, and the Cardinals are at +2500 odds to go 17-0.

Will either break their streak in Week 8? First, let’s take a look at the NFL football odds there.

Detroit Lions Odds

Let’s start with the team looking for their first win. Here are the Lions’ odds of getting their first win in each remaining matchup:

• Week 8 vs. Eagles +135
• Week 10 at Steelers +550
• Week 11 at Browns +800
• Week 12 vs. Bears +500
• Week 13 vs. Vikings +1100
• Week 14 at Broncos +2500
• Week 15 vs. Cardinals +4000
• Week 16 at Falcons +4000
• Week 17 at Seahawks +5000
• Week 18 vs. Packers +3500

The odds favor the Lions to get their first win this upcoming week against the Eagles. I think this is one of the Lions’ best opportunities to get their first win.

If there is one thing that the Lions can take pride in, it is the fact that they are competitive with good teams. In five of their seven games, they have lost by ten points or less, and five of those seven losses have come to teams currently .500 or better.

On top of that, some can argue that the Eagles may have given up on their season, considering they traded Zach Ertz to the Cardinals after their Week 6 loss to the Buccaneers.

There is reason to believe that the Lions are playing with more of a sense of desperation here, and considering the other opponents on their upcoming schedule, this is most likely their best chance to win.

After that, they have two challenging road games but then host their division rival on the annual Thanksgiving home game. That could be a tempting spot to pick for their first win if you do not believe that they will get it done against the Eagles.

Arizona Cardinals Odds

The Cardinals have surprised most of the NFL world by being the league’s last undefeated team. Here are their odds of getting their first loss in each remaining matchup:

• Week 9 at 49ers +240
• Week 10 vs. Panthers +700
• Week 11 at Seahawks +500
• Week 13 at Bears +2000
• Week 14 vs. Rams +1400
• Week 15 vs. Lions +6600
• Week 16 vs. Colts +5000
• Week 17 at Cowboys +3500
• Week 18 vs. Seahawks +3000

There are a lot of challenging opponents left for the Cardinals to face, including this Thursday night against the Packers.

However, Packers’ wide receiver Davante Adams is on the COVID-19 list, which makes his status for that game uncertain. In addition, wide receiver Allen Lazard was also on this list and will almost certainly have to quarantine because there are several signs that he is not vaccinated.

This leaves the Packers potentially shorthanded against the Cardinals, which might not make them the best candidate to end their winning streak.

I would look towards the divisional road games coming up. In the last five meetings against the 49ers, the Cardinals are just 2-3 and won their earlier meeting in 2021 by just a touchdown at home.

Then, they have the Seahawks in Week 11, who may look like an easy win right now, but do not be surprised if Russell Wilson is back for that game since he is likely having the pin removed from his finger this week.

I think both are good candidates to knock the Cardinals off, with a slight lean towards the 49ers because of recent history.
