Only one team in the AFC has clinched their division heading into Week 17. The current NFL football odds show the spreads of the nine teams in the AFC that still have an opportunity to win their division.
After looking at the NFL odds, let’s break down the top three AFC teams who can clinch their division and look at which bets give bettors the best value for these three teams.
Buffalo Bills -14.5 (-110)
- Date: Sunday, Jan. 2nd
- Time: 1:00 PM EST
- Venue: Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, NY
- Participants: Atlanta Falcons and Buffalo Bills
This week, the Buffalo Bills (9-6) are heavily favored to win at home against the Atlanta Falcons (7-8). After their 33-21 win against the New England Patriots last week, the Bills are in first place in the AFC East.
Atlanta is the ninth seed in the NFC. They beat the Detroit Lions last week, 20-16. The Falcons rank 25th in the NFL at scoring (18.5 PPG), while the Bills rank third (28.5 PPG).
The Bills and Falcons have both allowed 22.7 PPG in their previous three matchups. However, Buffalo has outscored their opponents by an average of 14.5 PPG in their last two contests.
The Bills’ passing defense ranks number one in the league. Matt Ryan has thrown three touchdown passes in his last three games; Josh Allen has thrown eight. I believe the Bills will win this game against the Falcons. I don’t think Atlanta can keep up with them offensively, and their defense hasn’t performed well against the pass, allowing an average of 244 yards per game.
Cincinnati Bengals to win the AFC North (-250)

- Venue: Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati, OH
- Participants: Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals
The Cincinnati Bengals (9-6) opened as a 5.5 point underdog against the top-seeded Kansas City Chiefs (11-4). The Chiefs are the only AFC team that has clinched their division.
With a 4-1 record in the division, the Bengals are favored at (-250) to win the AFC North. After beating the Baltimore Ravens 41-21 last week, the Bengals are now the number three seed.
A win at home this week or a win against the Cleveland Browns in Week 18 would clinch the division for the Bengals. They could also win the division if the Pittsburgh Steelers, Browns, and Ravens lose at least once.
Joe Burrow threw for 525 yards and four touchdown passes last week against Baltimore. Meanwhile, the Chiefs beat the Steelers 36-10.
Cincinnati has averaged 27 PPG at home, while Kansas City has averaged 31 PPG on the road this season.
The Bengals have the 29th ranked passing defense (252.8 yards allowed per game), and the Chiefs have thrown for 301.3 yards over their past three matchups. To me, it’s safer to bet on the Bengals to win next week at Cleveland. That would clinch the AFC North for Cincinnati.
Tennessee Titans -3 (-110)
- Date: Sunday, Jan. 2nd
- Time: 1:00 PM EST on CBS
- Venue: Nissan Stadium in Nashville, TN
- Participants: Miami Dolphins and Tennessee Titans
The Tennessee Titans (10-5) remain the number two seed in the AFC. They’re one game ahead of the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC South, including a divisional tiebreaker victory from Week 8.
This week, the Titans will host the Miami Dolphins. Then they’ll finish up their season on the road against the Houston Texans, a team they lost to in Week 11.
The Titans need a win, or the Colts need to lose, for Tennessee to clinch the division. Last week, they won a big game on Thursday Night Football against the San Francisco 49ers, 20-17.
The Dolphins have won seven straight, including a 20-3 Monday Night Football victory in Week 16 against the New Orleans Saints.
Tennessee has averaged 21.9 PPG at home this season, while Miami has averaged 19.6 PPG on the road. The Titans have allowed 18.5 PPG at home, while the Dolphins have given up 23 PPG as the away team.
During their current streak, Miami has only faced one team with a winning record, beating a Ravens team in Week 10 that’s gone 2-5 in their past seven games. I believe that Tennessee’s running game, which has averaged 131 yards over their past three contests, will allow the Titans to control the clock and win this game.
