Week 15 might have been one of the most unpredictable weeks in recent memory. Last week was full of chaos as Covid-19 ravaged rosters, disrupted schedules, and wreaked havoc on a bevy of big games.
But when the dust finally settled, we saw some shocking surprises, like the Detroit Lions defeat the Cardinals and the New Orleans Saints shut out Tom Brady and the Buccaneers. Week 16 could provide more big upsets for savvy sports bettors. Here’s a look at some of the best money line wagers this week for NFL betting.
Colts (-105) at Cardinals
- Date: Saturday, Dec. 25th
- Time: 8:15 p.m. EST
- Venue: State Farm Stadium in Glendale, AZ
This game features two teams heading in opposite directions. The Indianapolis Colts are surging after a statement win last Thursday that saw them knock off a red-hot New England Patriots team. The Colts have now won five of their past six games. Meanwhile, the Arizona Cardinals have lost three out of their past five games, losing a crucial home game to the Los Angeles Rams and then getting destroyed by the last-place Detroit Lions on the road.
Indy has averaged 33 per game in the last six games. One of the main reasons for that is their vaunted run game, led by superstar Jonathan Taylor. The Colts are averaging 157 rushing yards per game (2nd), and they’ll face a mediocre run defense in Arizona (17th), who just surrendered 112 yards to the Lions’ third-string running back.
The Colts’ defense has also been playing well. They’ve surrendered just 17 points in the last two games and have created ten turnovers in their previous four. The Cardinals’ offense has sputtered as of late, putting up just 35 total points in their last two games, and Kyler Murray has struggled with just one touchdown and three interceptions in that span.
I believe that the Colts’ rushing attack and strong defense will lead them to a victory in this game.
Lions (+200) at Falcons
- Date: Sunday, Dec. 26th
- Time: 1:00 p.m. EST
- Venue: Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, GA
Don’t look now, but the upstart Lions have won two of their last three games. While I never thought I’d recommend taking the Lions on the money line this year, I believe that they’ll beat the Atlanta Falcons this week.
The Falcons have been abysmal this year at preventing their opponents from scoring. They rank 31st in points against and have given up an average of 27.3 in their last six games. The Lions, on the other hand, put up 29 or more points in their two recent wins.
Quarterback Jared Goff has played well in his last three games, averaging 242 YPG to go with seven TDs and two picks, but after testing positive for COVID-19 on Monday, he may not be available in this game. Without Jared Goff at quarterback, Tim Boyle would get the start for the Lions. Why do I still like Detroit?
The Falcons are coming off a 31-13 defeat to the San Francisco 49ers and have averaged just 13.8 points per game over their last six.
In Boyle’s last game, he was 15-23 for 77 yards and two interceptions. Despite that, the Lions still managed to hold the Cleveland Browns to 13 points and had a chance to win the game. The Falcons are 22nd in the NFL at rushing yards allowed per game (120.3). I believe that Detroit will use their running game to keep it close, and I don’t have any faith in the Falcons’ ability to score. I believe that if the Lions score 14 points, it will be enough to win this matchup.
