The Top NFL Over-Unders in the First Round of the Playoffs

Patriots at Bills Over 44

When these two teams last met, the Buffalo Bills defeated the New England Patriots 33-21 in Foxborough. Josh Allen had a better performance than in their first meeting (15-of-30 for 145 yards) and threw for 314 yards and three touchdowns.

On the other sideline, Mac Jones threw for 145 yards and two interceptions. Even without Jones adding any touchdowns, that game still went over this matchup’s projected total of 43.5 points, reaching 54.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this game got close to 60 total points. The Bills are playing well offensively and have averaged 29.4 points in their last five games. The Patriots have averaged 25.2 points in their previous five games.

Both teams have elite defenses. The Bills are the top-ranked team in points allowed, and the Patriots are second. I believe these rankings are misleading, though, as Buffalo and New England have had the 3rd and 8th easiest strength of schedules this year, respectively.

I expect both offenses to continue scoring efficiently, so I’ll take the over.

49ers at Cowboys Under 50.5

• Venue: AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX

Yes, the Dallas Cowboys just ended the year scoring more than 50 points in two of their last three games, but I still like the under in this one.

Even though the Dallas offense has looked explosive of late, we have to consider the competition. Dallas has scored 50 points in two of their past three games, but the Cowboys were facing the 18th-ranked Philadelphia Eagles defense and the 25th-ranked Washington Football Team defense.

Both Washington and Philly rank outside the top 15 in the opponent red zone scoring percentage, an area where the Cowboys thrive on offense, ranking 6th (63.08 percent).

This week, the Cowboys face the San Francisco 49ers, who have an all-around elite defense. They rank ninth in points allowed (21.5) and third in yards allowed (310). They also rank 15th in opponent red zone scoring, so they should have a better chance to slow Dallas down near the goal line.

The Cowboys also have a top-tier defense. They currently rank seventh in points allowed and allow the sixth-fewest touchdowns in the NFL
