Week 10 of NFL football came with more upsets, massive blowouts, and an almost-win/non-loss for the league’s only winless team. The 0-8 Detroit Lions were a hot upset-pick in NFL betting this week against a Ben Roethlisberger-less Steelers team, and they teased us just enough to get excited before settling for a tie.
Meanwhile, the Cowboys and Bills reminded us just who they are, as did the Jets and Falcons. It also looks like a new rushing king is keeping Derrick Henry’s throne warm in his absence. Jonathan Taylor continues to tear up the league on the ground and is now tied with Henry as the league’s leading rusher with 937 yards. Let’s look at what we can expect in the NFL this week regarding trends and NFL betting lines.
Patriots Are Trending Up
It didn’t take long for Bill Belichick to turn things around in New England. He appears to have landed his future quarterback in Mac Jones and has his team playing great on both sides of the ball. New England has won five out of its last six games after a 45-7 thrashing of the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.
The defense has allowed just 13 total points in the last two games while the offense has clicked for an eye-popping 69. The Pats will have a short week as they head to Atlanta to take on the beleaguered Falcons, who are coming off an ugly 43-3 loss to the Cowboys. You can count on the Patriots to cover the -6 spread on this one.
Baltimore Ravens at Chicago Bears (+6)
When we thought the Ravens were going to pull away in the AFC North, they went and laid an egg on Thursday Night Football last week. We have to credit the Dolphins, who came up with one of the best defensive performances this year and completely stifled Lamar Jackson and company, but this was a game that the Ravens clearly should have won.
Baltimore is still 6-3, but just 3-6 against the spread this season and 2-2 on the road. Meanwhile, Justin Fields continues to improve and has shown flashes of why he was a first-round pick. The Bears are coming off a bye after a tough loss in Pittsburgh in a game they could have won, and I expect them to keep it close against another AFC North team at home. A six-point spread is too high in this one; I’m taking the Bears +6.
Detroit Lions (+10) at Cleveland Browns
Those quirky Lions continue to not win in spectacular fashion. After a handful of heartbreaking losses this year, it looked like the Lions were finally going to get their first win of the season. Mason Rudolph and the listless Steelers essentially gift-wrapped the victory to the Lions in overtime, but a sack here and a misplay there, and the Lions were suddenly out of field goal range, and the game ended in a tie.
But news of playing the Cleveland Browns should cheer the Lions faithful up. The Browns were humiliated Sunday by the Patriots 45-7. I have faith that the Lions can ride the momentum of their non-loss into Cleveland and cover the +10 against the sinking ship that is the Browns.
Expect More Upsets in the NFL This Week
We’ve grown to expect the unexpected this year, and it should be no different in the NFL this week. Sports betting can get pretty exciting in a league where truly any team can beat anyone on any given Sunday.
