Based on Seattle’s inconsistent defensive record, particularly through the air, my 49ers vs Seahawks prediction is the San Francisco 49ers Moneyline (-115).Â
Sunday’s performance against the Panthers continued a noticeable trend with Seattle’s defense.Â
While the unit entered that game first in defensive DVOA, they also ranked 27th in variance (32nd = most unpredictable).Â
Bryce Young could not move the ball on Seattle. He managed only 54 passing yards in the game and completed 14 of 24 passes.Â
I’m fairly confident the same won’t happen to Brock Purdy and the Niners’ offense. San Francisco, exclusive of SNF, ranked second in pass defense DVOA.Â
The closest comparison to San Francisco at the moment is the Los Angeles Rams.Â
Prior to facing the Panthers, Seattle allowed Matthew Stafford to eviscerate that secondary….without Davante Adams.Â
That is a big concern for the secondary. Of course, the task likely gets easier if George Kittle misses a second straight game for the 49ers offense.Â
One last factor I’m considering: the complete falloff of the Seahawks offense. From Week 1-11, the Seahawks ranked 13th in EPA per play and ninth in success rate.Â
Since Week 12: 19th and 12th, respectively. That came despite facing Tennessee, Atlanta, Indy, the Rams and Carolina.Â
In a game where the total is 49.5, I’m more inclined to side with the offense I trust more.Â
That’s San Francisco, which also benefits from Seattle traveling on a short week in a back-to-back road spot.Â
