In the sports world, mid-summer is code for the dry season. You can break down some NFL Playoff odds and maybe even look ahead to Week 1 NFL betting lines.
Other than that, it’s baseball and the occasional tennis bet until we get to Labor Day.
Fortunately, there’s an NFL podcast that’s providing some much-needed content in this dead zone.
The Andrew Luck Podcast
Zak Keefer, the Colts beat reporter for The Athletic, has put together a six-part series on former NFL quarterback Andrew Luck for The Athletic Football Show. I’m absolutely obsessed with it. It’s called Luck, and yes, you can listen to it wherever you listen to podcasts.
NFL fans may recall that Luck suddenly retired in August 2019, just before the start of a new football season. It was a huge shock to pretty much everyone, from the Colts fans and ownership to NFL odds bettors.
A couple of weeks later, the Colts began the season with Jacoby Brissett as the starting quarterback for the 2019 season.
Indianapolis finished 7-9 and missed the playoffs.
Keefer’s podcast details Luck’s disillusionment after suffering too many hits and injuries, thanks in large part to a bad roster and a terrible offensive line.
It’s the best podcast I’ve heard in a while. (Not counting my own, of course.)
Andrew Luck Retirement: What Is Andrew Luck Doing Now?
According to Luck, he’s basically working as a stay-at-home dad now. He married his wife, Nicole, in March 2019; she gave birth to their daughter, Lucy, in November 2019.
Luck graduated from Stanford in 2012 with an engineering degree, majoring in architectural design.

One of the details that becomes clear in Keefer’s reporting – both in and away from his podcast series – is that Luck still lives in Indianapolis.
It’s difficult to imagine being a Colts fan – sifting through Phillip Rivers, Carson Wentz and now Matt Ryan, hoping to find a franchise quarterback.
Meanwhile, the beloved No. 1 pick from the 2012 draft lives in town… but can’t play for the local team anymore because it didn’t protect him.
