Bengals vs. Steelers: NFL Week 7 Odds, Prediction

See the latest NFL Week 7 odds, picks and predictions for Bengals vs. Steelers on October 16 at PayCor Stadium.
  • The Bengals are a 5.5-point home underdog against the Steelers.
  • The Steelers have won each of their last 11 October games against the Bengals.
  • My Bengals vs Steelers prediction is for the Bengals (+5.5) to cover the spread.

The Steelers go for a second straight AFC North win on TNF against the Bengals.ย

Pittsburgh cruised to a win and cover as home favorites against Cleveland on Sunday. The win vaulted Pittsburgh to 4-1, good for the division lead.ย

The Bengals fell 27-18 to the Packers in Joe Flaccoโ€™s first start with the team. Still, Zac Taylorโ€™s team managed to cover as 14.5-point road underdogs.ย

Bengals vs. Steelers Prediction

Based on Cincinnatiโ€™s clean game against the Packers and Mike Tomlinโ€™s struggles as a big favorite, my Bengals vs Steelers prediction is the Bengals Spread (+5.5).ย

Cincinnati impressed me in defeat on Sunday against Green Bay. Flacco, as expected, provided stability over Jake Browning for the offense.ย

After turning the ball over 11 times between Weeks 2-4, Cincinnati avoided an offensive turnover against Green Bay.ย

That is no small feat against a strong defense coming off a bye. Now, the Bengals get a fraudulent Steelers defense off a big win.ย

Pittsburgh ranks 20th in defensive success rate this season. The team drops to 25th in dropback success rate, according to rbsdm.com.ย

It gets worse on plays excluding turnovers. Hereโ€™s a breakdown of Pittsburghโ€™s defensive ranks on plays excluding turnovers:

  • EPA per play: 28th
  • Success Rate: 22nd
  • Dropback EPA per Play: 28th
  • Dropback Success Rate: 28th

All of those ranks present major issues against a pass-heavy Bengals offense.ย

Plus, Tomlin has struggled to cover the spread as a big market favorite.ย

Tomlin has a 35-42-1 ATS record as a road favorite, including 4-8 between -7.5 and -5.5. As a road favorite within the division: 14-14 ATS, including 1-4 in his last five north of -3.5.ย

Pittsburgh has covered this number only twice all season. Once came at New England with a pair of turnovers in Pittsburghโ€™s own end zone.ย

The second came Sunday off extended rest against a team returning from London. No such advantages exist on Thursday, so I predict Cincinnati covers the spread.ย
