Panthers Playoff Chances, Prediction for 2025

  • The Carolina Panthers are +300 to make the postseason in 2025-26.
  • Four of Carolinaโ€™s final five wins came in the last nine games of the 2024 season.
  • I predict the Panthers offer a good live betting candidacy to make the playoffs.

Based on NFL odds and Panthers playoff odds, the Carolina Panthers are predicted to miss the postseason this year.ย

Carolina finished 5-12 in 2024, but finished 4-5 in the final nine games. Now, oddsmakers price the Panthers at +280ย to make the playoffs in 2025.ย

Comparatively, Dave Canalesโ€™ side is -350ย to miss the postseason.ย

Prediction: Will the Carolina Panthers Make the Playoffs?ย

Based on the Panthersโ€™ difficult schedule to open the season, I predict the best angle is to look for a live betting opportunity on this market.ย

Everyone knows the story of the 2024 Panthers: bad to start, strong to finish.ย

What proved consistent about Carolina? The defense played terribly. The Panthers ranked 31st in EPA per play from Week 1-8 and 32nd from Week 9 onward.ย

But whatโ€™s interesting about the Panthers is the offensive record.ย

After ranking 31st in expected points added per play during the first eight games, Carolina jumped to 10th from Week 9 onward. In terms of overall success rate: 27th to 18th.ย

Even more interesting is that Carolina played a โ€œharder: set of defenses in the latter sample.ย

In Weeks 1-8, opponents averaged a defensive DVOA rating of +0.69. From Week 9 onward, opponents averaged a defensive DVOA rating of +0.49 (negative scores rank higher in defense DVOA).ย

Normally, that would be enough for me to take a position on this team from a futures standpoint. However, I question if the defense improves enough to change Carolinaโ€™s fortunes.ย

Last season, Carolina played the 12th-hardest set of opposing offenses. Based on 2024 offensive DVOA ratings, they play the ninth-hardest schedule, per ftnfantasy.com.ย

Counterbalancing that upgrade in competition is that Carolina invested heavily in the defense.ย

If the free agency signings โ€“ Trevon Moehrig, Bobby Brown, Tershawn Wharton, Christian Rozeboom and Patrick Jones โ€“ hit, it could change Carolinaโ€™s fortunes on defense.ย

Whatโ€™s further complicating this handicap is that Carolina opens the season with a difficult set of offenses.ย

Jacksonville, Atlanta, Arizona, Miami and Dallas comprise five of Carolinaโ€™s first six games. Then, Buffalo and Green Bay occupy Weeks 8 and 9 on the schedule.ย

If my expectations are right, those offenses likely finish no worse than 16th in DVOA next season. Accordingly, the Carolina offensive improvements might not matter.ย

For those reasons, Iโ€™ll take a pass on betting this market before the season starts and wait for more information on Carolina.ย
