  • The Chiefs have only $7.9 million in salary cap space this offseason.
  • As of Feb. 25, Kansas City sits 23rd in terms of total cap space league-wide.
  • This offseason, positional targets include offensive line and wide receiver.

Based on Chiefs odds, Kansas City is the second choice to reach Super Bowl 60.ย

In order to sustain their Super Bowl appearance streak, Kansas City will need to cope with limited cap space to construct their roster.ย

Kansas City holds only $7.9 million in salary cap space, including $4.4 million in effective salary cap space. In terms of the former figure, only eight teams possess fewer cap dollars to spend.ย

That will almost surely mean Kansas City loses some key free agents, including DeAndre Hopkins, Nick Bolton and Trey Smith.ย

Chiefs Cap Space: Free Agent Position Targets

If the Super Bowl proved any indication, the biggest gap on the Chiefs roster is the offensive line.ย

Unfortunately, itโ€™s set to regress with the presumed departure of Smith. Last year, Smith ranked sixth in PFFโ€™s offensive grades amongst all guards with a minimum of 1,099 snaps.ย

In positive news for Kansas City, Joe Thuney returning to his natural position should help the Chiefs protect Patrick Mahomes.ย

But if Smith departs, it leaves Thuney and Creed Humphrey as the only reliable pieces across the offensive line.ย

Wide receiver is another target for Kansas City. Including Hopkins, Kansas City sees Juju Smith-Schuster and Marquise Brown enter free agency.ย

With a potential suspension looming for Rashee Rice, it forces the Chiefs to address the position.
