Commanders vs Cowboys Prediction

Based on the Cowboys’ continued defensive issues and Washington’s Week 1 offensive success, my Cowboys vs Commanders prediction is the Commanders Over 23.5 Points.

New personnel and a change at defensive coordinator haven’t fixed Dallas’s defensive issues. Last week, the unit ranked 32nd in EPA per play and 31st in success rate.

More concerning, linebacker Demarvion Overshown is set for a spell on the sidelines. He sustained an injury against the Giants and appears set to miss 1-2 weeks.

Dallas will have to operate without him against a Commanders offense that impressed me in Week 1.

As a six-point underdog in Philadelphia – a superior defense to Dallas – the Commanders moved the ball well. Most importantly for this game, they ran the ball very well.

Excluding turnovers, the Commanders ranked 13th in rushing EPA per play and fifth in rushing success rate.

They scored 22 points against a unit that finished as a top-10 DVOA defense in 2025.

In two games against the Cowboys last season, Washington scored 22 and 23 points. They achieved it despite Jayden Daniels playing only 2.5 quarters against the defense.

In Dallas, Daniels led the Commanders on two touchdown drives before exiting with an injury. The Commanders also turned the ball over twice in Dallas territory.

Daniels fumbled once when he suffered his injury. Later, Marcus Mariota threw a pick-six from the Dallas 38. Washington also failed on a fourth-and-1 from the Dallas 36.

If Washington earns points on any of those drives, they clear this number. Given their Week 1 success, I predict the Commanders improve on Sunday and clear this benchmark.
