  • Deebo Samuel is signing a three-year contract extension worth more than $70 million.
  • The new contract extension guarantees about $58 million.
  • The new contract extension ends a months-long negotiation between Deebo Samuel and San Francisco 49ers management.

The long stalemate in San Francisco is over. After months of negotiating, pay demands and trade rumors, 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel is getting the bag.

NFL betting lines will likely react accordingly.

New Deebo Samuel Contract: What We Know So Far

The San Francisco 49ers reportedly agreed to terms with Deebo Samuel for a massive contract extension: a three-year, $71.55 million extension. The extension includes a hefty amount of guaranteed money: $58,100,000.

Deebo Samuel News: Origin of the Contract Conflict

This offseason has been a lucrative one for many of the NFL’s best receivers. Davante Adams, Tyreek Hill and – most recently – DK Metcalf have all signed big-money deals.

In the case of Adams and Hill, those bags of cash came from new teams – the Raiders and Dolphins, respectively.

Samuel is entering the final year of his rookie deal in 2022, and the $4 million base salary he was receiving simply wasn’t anywhere near what the star playmaker would be worth on the open market.

Further complicating the situation are 49ers-specific details. Kyle Shanahan’s offense utilizes Samuel as a running back far more than most receivers in the NFL; Samuel’s team felt he should be compensated for the extra wear and tear on his body.

After all, we all understand the shelf life of ball carriers in the modern NFL.

There’s also the matter of Trey Lance set to take snaps as San Francisco’s QB1 in 2022 – a move that inflates the need for high-impact skill players on the roster.

A second-year quarterback is also an inherently less stable situation that could negatively impact the future stats of guys like Samuel.

For those reasons, Samuel (correctly) felt that he couldn’t enter the 2022 NFL season without a massive change in his contract status.

Like any smart professional, he understood his market worth and wanted to be paid accordingly.
