Keenan Allen remains available in the NFL free agency pool after his Chargers contract ended.
Allen rejoined Los Angeles prior to the 2025 season after one year with the Bears. Before his short tenure in Chicago, the NFL veteran played 11 seasons with the Chargers.
Whether Allen played his final NFL season remained unknown. Speculation about Allen’s retirement surrounded him after his contract ended.
However, Allen previously said he aims to play in the 2026 NFL season. Now, the question becomes whether he returns to Los Angeles or takes a different opportunity.
Keenan Allen Contract: Predicting Allen’s Free Agency Deal
Veteran receivers have lacked attention from teams so far in free agency. As of April 29, only three receivers aged 32 or higher received contract offers from new teams.
San Francisco signed Mike Evans for a $14.1 million average annual value.
Dallas added Marquez Valdes-Scantling for $1.5 million per year, while Chicago signed Kalif Raymond for $3.5 million in average annual value.
Allen is the oldest of that group. He signed his last contract with the Chargers for just over $3 million. A raise appears unlikely, leading me to believe his deal will come in around $2.5 million.
Keenan Allen Next Team Predictions
The most logical landing spot for Allen appears to be a return to the Chargers.
Allen expressed his desire to return in interviews, buoyed by the addition of OC Mike McDaniel.
He would rejoin a receiver room headlined by Ladd McConkey, Quentin Johnston and Tre Harris.
Unless the Chargers decide to focus on Harris’ development, Allen’s return poses few obstacles. Los Angeles currently holds over $45 million in cap space.
If not the Chargers, a move to the Los Angeles Rams also could materialize. The Rams passed on taking a wide receiver at pick 13 in April’s NFL Draft.
Minimal depth exists behind Puka Nacua and a 34-year-old Davante Adams. With $25 million in cap space, the Rams could offer Allen a contract to bring in receiver help for Matthew Stafford.
