New England, the defending AFC champions, enters 2026 free agency with some spending power.

General manager Eliot Wolf currently has $39.3 million to work with for free agency. By effective cap space, New England’s spending power falls slightly to $35.2 million.

An announced release of Stefon Diggs will free up additional space.

Designating Diggs as a post-June 1 cut would save the Patriots $20.8 million against the cap next season. A pre-June 1 cut would free up $16.8 million in additional spending power.

That move could translate into a blockbuster A.J. Brown trade, should the Eagles elect to move their top receiver.

Patriots Free Agents 2026: 3 Key Defensive Players Hit Market

A prolific Patriots offense sees few personnel depart via free agency.

Amongst players that participated in over 40% of snaps, only tight end Austin Hooper is set to hit the market from last year’s offense.

That could change if the Patriots cut Diggs and replace him with a different receiver.

Defensively, interior lineman Khyiris Thonga is a name to watch. Per PFF, Thonga posted his best pressure grade last season with New England.

Other potential departures from the Patriots defense include edge rusher K’Lavon Chaisson and safety Jaylinn Hawkins.

Year over year, Chaisson improved to 54 pressures and nine sacks from 29 and six, respectively, in 2024.

Hawkins notched four interceptions last year with New England, matching his career total.
