Entering the final week of the NHL’s regular season, it seems as though our Hart Trophy favorite is finally solidified.Â
Despite some fluctuation in the final month of the regular season, the odds for the league MVP have steadied over the last week. The usual four contenders have remained the same throughout the season.
Here’s a look at the current standings and the new favorite for the 2025-26 Hart Trophy with odds as of April 13.Â

2025-26 Hart Trophy Favorite
Nathan MacKinnon, C, Avalanche (-110)
After a brief hiatus from being at the top of the Hart odds, Colorado’s top-line center, Nathan MacKinnon, has returned to being the favorite for league MVP honors.Â
MacKinnon has a strong case to win the Hart, given his own statistical achievements and those of his likely Presidents’ Trophy-winning team.Â
If your main criteria for MVP is ‘best player on best team,’ MacKinnon checks the box. But his performance this season goes beyond that.Â
Through 78 games, MacKinnon has amassed an incredible 126 points, his highest points total since his Hart Trophy-winning campaign in the 2023-24 season. He currently leads the league in goals with 52, tying a career best. He also has a league-leading and career-high plus/minus of +55.Â
Beyond those individual achievements, the Avalanche are having their best season since winning the Stanley Cup in 2024.Â
Right now, Colorado leads the league in team points with 115 and sits atop the competitive Central Division.Â
