The always entertaining Stanley Cup Playoffs have lived up to the billing in the early going, with several first-round series potentially going the distance. As the excitement marches on, let’s have a look at Stanley Cup odds.

Colorado Avalanche (+200)

With the best NHL odds to capture this year’s Stanley Cup, the high-powered Avalanche made quick work of their first-round opponent, notching a four-game sweep of the Nashville Predators in a series that rarely felt competitive.

Defenseman Cale Makar recorded a remarkable 10 points during the four games, one of many standout talents on a loaded Avs roster. Sitting first in both ticket and handle percentage by a significant margin, bettors are clearly all in on Colorado claiming its first title since Ray Bourque lifted the cup back in 2001.

Florida Panthers (+475)

Holding the second-best NHL Stanley Cup odds is the Presidents’ Trophy-winning Florida Panthers. It was a historic regular season in the Sunshine State, with the Panthers scoring 322 goals, the most in the NHL’s salary cap era.

That said, Florida has had its hands full with the underdog Capitals, most recently having to rally from three goals down in Game 5 to earn a 3-2 series lead. Despite ranking second in ticket and handle percentage, my confidence is not exactly high given the club’s lackluster showing thus far.

Calgary Flames (+600)

It’s been a test of patience for the offensive-oriented Flames, who find themselves locked in a slow, grind-it-out style of play against the defensive-minded Dallas Stars. Unlike the Panthers in their respective series, Calgary has looked like the far superior team, only to run into a hot goaltender in Dallas’ Jake Oettinger.

With scoring coming at a premium, the Flames still find themselves up three games to two. Showcasing an ability to win those tightly-contested affairs will do wonders for the club and bettors’ confidence going forward. That’s assuming, of course, Calgary manages to escape the opening round, which I believe it will.
