A lethal power play is the cheat code to success in the NHL.

There’s nothing sweeter for a hockey team than to convert its opponents’ mistakes into scoring opportunities on the other end. That way, you get an edge in the on-ice portion of the game and the mental portion as well.

Here’s a look at which teams are really cooking on the man advantage so far this season, with a ranking of all 32 teams’ power play percentage as of April 1.

Which NHL Team Has the Best Power Play?

Even if the Oilers are looking a little less like their usual world-beating selves, their power play is still the best in the league.

Edmonton has slightly underperformed this season, relative to what the expectations are for a team that’s made it to back-to-back Stanley Cup Finals. Right now, they have a 40-30-10 record and sit in second place in a weak Pacific Division.

Amid all of that, their all-world forwards, Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, are still showing up on the man-advantage.

As a team, the Oilers have 66 power-play goals this season. The Stars lead the league with 69 power-play goals this season.

Draisaitl’s 16 power-play goals have him sitting in fifth for most power-play goals in the league this season, despite missing a healthy amount of games at the end of the season. McDavid has 13. Beyond those two, Edmonton is getting strong power-play contributions from Zach Hyman and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.

McDavid leads the league in assists on the power play with 39, seven goals ahead of Montreal’s Nick Suzuki, who has the second most.

Despite concerns about their at-times lackluster regular-season performance, the Oilers’ league-best power play means they’re still a very dangerous team in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
