There are three NHL games on the schedule Wednesday, so limited opportunities for ice hockey betting.

It’s a tricky spot for the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers Wednesday, as both teams are coming off tough losses on Tuesday. Neither club did themselves any favors with goaltending usage as the Rangers elected to start primary goalie Igor Shesterkin, while the Flyers were forced to use both goalies after taking a 9-2 beatdown against the Washington Capitals.

Here are some analysis and some NHL betting picks for the matchup.

Rangers vs. Flyers Odds, Total

Moneyline: Rangers -200 | Flyers +170

Spread: Rangers -1.5 (+120) | Flyers +1.5 (-145)

Total: 6 Over -110 | Under -110

Rangers vs. Flyers Analysis

The Rangers suffered a 4-2 defeat at the hands of the Carolina Hurricanes Tuesday, just their third defeat over their past 10 games. We’re anticipating more losses to follow, as the Rangers have seen a downturn in their recent metrics.

Just once over their past four games have the Rangers attempted more than six high-danger chances, getting out-chanced in three of four. That has shifted their expected goals-for ratings downward, with New York posting ratings below 50% in all but one of those contests.

Those issues will be compounded by playing on consecutive nights, as the Rangers have posted expected goals-for ratings below 35.1% on the second night of a back-to-back in three of their past four games.

Even by their standards, the Flyers were humiliated Tuesday.

Philadelphia gave up nine goals, which was the eighth time over their previous 11 contests in which they gave up four or more goals. That drops the Flyers team save percentage to 86.7% over the 11-game sample, below their season-long average of 89.5%.

The pendulum has swung far enough in the opposite direction and the Flyers likely bottomed out last night against the Caps; so we should start to see progress from Carter Hart and Martin Jones before the end of the season.

Philadelphia’s recent stretch isn’t as bad as their outcomes suggest.

The Flyers have outplayed four of their past seven opponents, a span that includes just two wins. They have a good chance to reverse that trend against a Rangers squad that is coming into tonight’s contest flat. That leaves an advantage in backing the Flyers, but don’t be surprised if this game gets sorted out in overtime or a shootout.

Rangers vs. Flyers Predictions

The Pick: Flyers +170, 60-Minute Tie +310
