If a team is +1.5 in NHL betting at BetMGM, they’re considered the underdog by one and a half goals. Their opponent, the favorite, would be -1.5.
To cover the spread (+1.5), the underdog must lose by one goal or win the game.
To cover the spread (-1.5), the favorite must win by at least two goals.Â
Example of +1.5 Puck Line in NHL Betting
Colorado Avalanche (+1.5, -110) at Winnipeg Jets (-1.5, -110)
The Avalanche are the road underdog (+1.5), and the Jets are the home favorite (-1.5).
If Colorado wins, they cover the puck line. If they lose by one goal, they cover, but if they lose by at least two goals, they don’t cover.
If Winnipeg wins by at least two goals, they cover the puck line. If they win by one goal or lose, they don’t cover.
Here are some score examples:
Avalanche 5, Jets 1: The Avalanche win by four goals and cover the puck line.Â
Jets 5, Avalanche 4: The Avalanche lose by one goal and cover.
Jets 6, Avalanche 3: The Avalanche lose by three goals and don’t cover.
Jets 3, Avalanche 1: The Jets win by two goals and cover.
Jets 1, Avalanche 0: The Jets win by one goal and don’t cover.
Payout for +1.5 Puck Line in NHL Betting
Colorado Avalanche (+1.5, -110) at Winnipeg Jets (-1.5, -110)
The odds accompanying the spread determine the payout. In this Avalanche-Jets example, the odds for each spread (+1.5 and -1.5) are -110. The odds can vary for games; they could be +100, -105, -110, -115 or another value.
To calculate the potential payout, add a spread bet to your BetMGM Bet Slip.Â
With -110 odds, a winning bet with a $25 stake would return $38.18 (including stake).
At -105 odds, a winning bet with a $25 stake would return $39.05 (including stake).
If a spread bet pushes, the stake is refunded.Â
