The Philadelphia Eagles Are Going Through Growing Pains
It’s no secret that the Eagles are going through a tough time. With frustration emerging in the wake of their 33-22 loss at home against the Las Vegas Raiders last week, coaches and players voiced their displeasure.
Sirianni suggested that a switch in the team’s offensive approach required quarterback Jalen Hurts to take more snaps under center. That resulted in Hurts throwing for 236 yards, and two touchdown passes on 34 attempts, rushing 13 times for 61 yards.
In comparison, the rest of the offense combined for less than half of the offensive’s output. Meaning, Hurts still carried most of the load, which is what a quarterback is supposed to do in the NFL.
Nevertheless, one of the keys to the Eagles turning around their season is their offense stepping up their game. Sirianni needs to find a way to boost morale and take some pressure off of his young quarterback.
This week against the Lions might do the trick.
Eagles vs. Lions
In Week 8, the Eagles get a road game against the (still) winless Lions. The Lions fell to the Los Angeles Rams, 28-19, after two fake punts and a successful onside kick.
This week, the Eagles should look to take advantage of their schedule by learning from previous mistakes. How can the team build on this experience to get better moving forward?
The key to that should come from the Eagles scoring earlier on in their matchups. For starters, the Eagles need to score early. Seven points in the first three quarters, like last week against the Raiders, isn’t going to win you many games.
Even the Lions put up 16 in the first half against the Rams, who led by only one point going into the second half. But then, the defense stepped it up and held the Lions to three points. That’s how you win football games.
The Eagles need consistent effort across the board if they’re going to turn this season around. Nick Sirianni will also need to make some tough choices regarding defensive playcalling and getting some of the pressure off of his young quarterback.
I see the Birds turning it around and coming together as an offensive unit that wants to win. The Lions desperately need a win, but so do the Eagles.
Nick Sirianni Will Pull Through
Coach Sirianni will pull through this adversity. It might take a lot to get there, but this could be the week where the Eagles start to turn their season around.
