The New York Jets (2-8) take to the road in Week 12 to play the Houston Texans (2-8). After winning last week against the Tennessee Titans, the Texans are favored at home by -2.5.
Let’s discuss some of the NFL odds for the Jets at Texans this week.
NFL Week 12: New York Jets vs. Houston Texans
For the NFL playoff picture, the Jets are in last place. The Texans beat the top-seeded Titans, so they rose to the 14th seed. Still, these are football teams in rebuilding years. With Zach Wilson sidelined, the Jets are even struggling to understand what it means to begin anew.
New York lost three straight after their surprising victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, and the Jets desperately started Joe Flacco at quarterback last week. Flacco went 24/39 with two touchdowns and 291 passing yards. That wasn’t enough. The Jets lost at home to the Miami Dolphins, 24-17.
The Texans had a much better performance last week (at least on defense). They won on the road as a big underdog against the Titans.
Tyrod Taylor only completed 14 of 24 passes for 107 yards. The Titans piled up 420 total yards, more than double that of the Texans. Tennessee still lost, 22-13.
The big story of the game came from the Texans’ defense. They intercepted Ryan Tannehill four times.
Jets at Texans Under 44.5
The Jets at Texans matchup puts two of the worst passing defenses in the NFL against each other. The Jets rank last at allowing passing yards per game, while the Texans are 27th.
While Houston has a 4-6 over-under record, the Jets are 6-4. For their Week 12 matchup, the over-under is 44.5.
I still don’t see either of these teams scoring more than 20 points. Houston’s offense ranks last in points per game, while the Jets are 27th. They’re both just as bad on offense as they are on defense.
Take the under this week.
Jets +2.5
Again, the Jets are last when it comes to covering the spread this season. Their record is 2-8, while the Texans are 5-5 ATS. Since I think the Jets might win this one, I’d take the points.
The Texans got lucky last week against the Titans. It looked like they might blow their significant lead. Even though they hung on, I find it hard to believe they could win two in a row.
I think the Jets can come up with a game plan that causes Taylor to make mistakes. As a result, I see a final score of 17-6 and the Jets earning their third win.
Who Will Start This Week for the Jets?
Whether Wilson, Flacco, or Mike White gets the start on Sunday afternoon, the Jets have a better chance to win. They played well enough last week to be competitive against Miami for the entire game.
They also beat the Titans in overtime earlier this season. So, for the Jets at Texans, it’s possible that the outcome also comes down to the wire.
Because there are so many variables at the Jets QB position, I think the money line at +120 is a great option.
Jets at Texans in Week 12
I like the Jets for the money line in Week 12, and I wouldn’t shy away from a spread bet, especially if it moves to +3 or higher. What do you think?
Do the Texans have a chance to win at home? Or will the Jets fly?
