The U.S. Open is here this week, and several golfers are attracting the attention of bettors. Jordan Spieth, who is currently third place in the FedExCup official standings, has seen his U.S. Open betting odds go from +6600 when they were first released in Nov. 2020, to +2000 this week.

Spieth has played in 19 events this season and has a PGA-high eight top-10 finishes, along with winning at the Valero Texas Open in April. He also took third at the Masters one week after his win in Texas, and had a second-place finish at the Charles Schwab Challenge in late May.

Phil Mickelson has also proven popular, but what’s new? The veteran golfer, who turns 51 this week, became the oldest winner in PGA Championship history back in May. Though he has missed several cuts this year, bettors have seen his U.S. Open golf odds go from +15000 to +5000 since they opened.

“The US Open will be played on the south course at Torrey Pines this week. In 2008, Tiger Woods won at Torrey Pines with a score of 1 under par,” said Jason Scott, Vice President of Trading at BetMGM. “If the course plays as difficult this week, both players and bettors are in for a thrilling tournament.

“Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth have received plenty of support from bettors early in the week and are expected to be the sportsbook’s big liabilities when it tees off.”

While Spieth and Mickelson’s odds have seen a spike, Jon Rahm is dominating the betting handle (10.5%). He has unfinished business from the Memorial Tournament two weekends ago, opening up the first three days 69, 65, and 64 respectively before having to withdraw due to COVID-19. He has had good showings at the last two major tournaments (tied for eighth at the PGA Championship, tied for fifth at the Masters).
