After an exciting week of golf betting at the U.S. Open, the PGA Tour heads a few hours down the road to Cromwell, Connecticut, for the Travelers Championship.
The last two weeks on Tour have been on courses without much course history to go off of, but that will change this week.
TPC River Highlands has hosted the Travelers Championship since 1984, and it is a course where the same players tend to have success year after year.
There should also be some low scores, as the winning score has been double-digits under par every year since 1993, including 17-under or better in three of the last four years.
Going into the week, Rory McIlroy has the best golf odds to win at +1000.
Here are my three favorite bets for the tournament.
Patrick Cantlay Outright Winner +1400, Top-5 Finish +275
The 30-year-old has played in this tournament more than any other in his career and has had a ton of success. He’s finished T-15 or better in four straight years.
Cantlay is also coming off a strong showing at the U.S. Open. He finished T-14 and shot under par over the weekend, which gives him plenty of confidence going into the week.
He is my favorite to win, but I will also play him to finish in the top 5 in case he plays well but can’t get it done.
Best scoring average at @TravelersChamp last 5 years, min. 12 rounds among players in field this week:
Rory McIlroy, 67.5
Patrick Cantlay, 67.6
Kevin Streelman, 67.67
Brian Harman, 67.83
Jason Day, 68.06— Justin Ray (@JustinRayGolf) June 22, 2022
Davis Riley Top-20 Finish +175
Riley’s impressive rookie season continued last week at the U.S. Open with a T-31 finish. It was his worst finish since late April, as he’s compiled six top-15 finishes since the RBC Heritage.
It feels like Riley will have success this week as plenty of birdies will be made, and he currently ranks 10th on the PGA Tour in birdies per round.
Betting him to finish in the top-20 pays out plus money, which is too good to pass up.
Hank Lebioda Top-20 Finish +550
Lebioda is somewhat unknown, but lefties have historically done very well at this course; look no further than Bubba Watson’s three wins.
The 28-year-old finished T-5 last year, and he’s played some solid golf of late with three top-40 finishes in his previous four starts.
Getting Lebioda at this price following a strong showing a year ago feels like a steal.
