One-and-Done Golf Picks for the British Open

Below, I’ve outlined three players worth a look for OAD pools this week at the Open Championship.

For those unfamiliar, OAD pools closely mirror an NFL survivor contest. Players select a golfer each week and earn their prize money at the conclusion of the event.

The catch? Contestants can only use a player once. Additionally, not all prize pools are created equally, which further adds to the game theory.

Scottie Scheffler (+750)

If you’ve somehow made it this far without burning Scheffler, it makes a lot of sense to use him.

Buying low off a missed cut provides the initial intrigue. He also owns nine top-5 finishes in 15 starts this season. That figure matches his top-10 finish rate for 2026.

Royal Birkdale favors accuracy off the tee. The good news for Scheffler OAD players is that he offers a perfect mixture of distance plus accuracy off the tee.

After a sluggish start to the year with his irons, Scheffler has started to round into form lately. He cleared +1 SG: APP five times this year, with all coming in his last nine events.

He also owns the best course history at Harbour Town, an extremely correlative course. In four starts, Scheffler owns a win and zero finishes outside the 11th.

Jon Rahm (+2200)

If you’re like me, you’ve burned both Scheffler and McIlroy. It leaves Rahm as the next-best option, even if you don’t believe he can win.

The Spaniard received major hype at the 2026 Masters, staggering to T-38th. Very little support followed at the PGA, where he finished T-2nd to Aaron Rai.

Rahm still possesses an elite off-the-tee record. He gained +0.8 SG: OTT on average in three straight events, including +1.21 last week at the Scottish Open.

The question mark remains the irons. Last week, Rahm posted two rounds north of +0.8 SG: APP and two rounds below -2 SG: APP.

What offers the most encouragement is Rahm’s Open record. He finished seventh or better in three of the previous five with two top-three finishes.

Matt Fitzpatrick (+1600)

My enthusiasm for Matt Fitzpatrick at this tournament knows no limits. That’s a little bit worrisome mentally, but I’ll trust the process that led me to the Brit.

He turned around his Open record with a top-five last year at Portrush. Over his last four starts, Fitzpatrick finished third or better three times, including a runner-up finish in Canada.

The 2022 U.S. Open winner ranks 16th in SG: OTT this year under the most difficult OTT conditions. He also leads the field in SG: APP, including third in SG: APP to small greens.

Irons take a step back? Fitzpatrick ranks second in short-grass scrambling percentage this season.

Two career wins at Harbour Town offer another check to Fitzpatrick’s resume, including this year. While he lacks a major top-10, Fitzpatrick finished 22nd or better in all three.

Pair that with his performance last week in Scotland, and I like Fitzpatrick as a high-floor candidate at Birkdale.
