The West Coast swing on the PGA Tour will wrap up this week, but the one-and-done pools for golf contest players are just beginning.

For those unfamiliar, OAD pools closely mirror an NFL survivor contest. Players select a golfer each week and earn their prize money at the conclusion of the event.

The catch? Contestants can only use a player once. Additionally, not all prize pools are created equally, which further adds to the game theory.

Below, I’ve outlined three players worth a look for OAD pools this week at the Genesis Invitational.

3 Best Golf One-and-Done Picks for Genesis Invitational

Option #1: Patrick Cantlay (+2500)

Cantlay hasn’t won a PGA Tour event since 2022, but he’s still been very consistent and has a tremendous record at Riviera.

He’s teed it up seven times here and has finished worse than T-17 just once. Additionally, he has finished in the top four each of his last two trips.

He also comes into the event in solid form following a T-14 finish at Pebble Beach where he was 11th in Strokes Gained: Approach.

Since this is a PGA Tour signature event, there is plenty of money up for grabs and one of the bigger weeks in one-and-done pools.

Cantlay has historically struggled in the majors, so I am not worried about using him this early in the year.

Option #2: Rory McIlroy (+1200)

Unlike Cantlay, McIlroy is a player certainly worth saving for future events, but this could potentially be a chance to grab him at low ownership.

Augusta National is one of the most comparable courses to Riv, and McIlroy, of course, won the Masters last year, so he has that going in his favor.

Additionally, he has three career top-10 finishes at Riveria, although he’s finished outside the top 23 in his last two trips here.

McIlroy enters in good form following a T-14 at Pebble, which was better than the final result. He was fourth in Strokes Gained: Approach and shot a final-round 64.

Option #3: Cameron Young (+3300)

I expected Young to have a breakout season following winning for the first time at the end of last summer and being the star of the United States squad at Bethpage Black.

Young has been off to a slow start this season, with two finishes outside the top 40 in three events so far, but this is a place where he could turn things around.

In three starts at Riv, his worst finish is a T-20, with his best being a T-2 in 2020.

Young has historically played his best at the bigger events, and this week certainly qualifies.
