As the PGA Tour returns to action, so do the one-and-done pools for golf contest players.

For those unfamiliar, OAD pools closely mirror an NFL survivor contest. Players select a golfer each week and earn their prize money at the conclusion of the event.

The catch? Contestants can only use a player once. Additionally, not all prize pools are created equally, which further adds to the game theory.

Below, I’ve outlined three players worth a look for OAD pools this week at the Valero Texas Open.

3 Best Golf One-and-Done Picks for the Valero Texas Open

Option #1: Jordan Spieth (+1800)

It’s possible players have already used Spieth. I, for one, used him at TPC Scottsdale to a less-than-ideal missed cut.

If you haven’t used Spieth, he offers a decent option at TPC San Antonio. Spieth previously won this event and arrives with elite iron play.

Spieth gained over four strokes on approach in two straight events. He simultaneously gained over five strokes T2G at the Players and Valspar Championships.

Over his last 12 rounds, Spieth gained over two strokes on approach four times. That 25% spike rate trails only Collin Morikawa and Neal Shipley.

Including his win here, Spieth owns a great record at TPC San Antonio. In six starts, Spieth has finished T-12th or better four times.

Option #2: Sepp Straka (+2800)

Like Spieth, Straka enters this event with consistently strong iron play. Since the calendar turned to 2026, he has yet to lose strokes on approach in an event.

The most encouraging thing about the irons is that his best outputs have come recently. Straka gained +3.2 SG: APP at the Players after gaining +4.5 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Over the last four months, only four players outgained Straka in SG: APP.

Further encouraging about Straka is the radical improvement in bogey avoidance percentage. Over the last six months, he ranks 53rd in the field.

However, he jumps to 12th over his last eight rounds and 24th over his last 20. Skewing that data: a third-round 80 at the Genesis Invitational.

If the irons keep working, Straka owns a really high floor and a higher ceiling this week.

Option #3: Keith Mitchell (+3500)

Mitchell, along with Straka, found their way into my Valero Texas Open Picks. Mitchell owns a great record at this course and is peaking at the right time.

He owns two top-20s in his last four starts, including a T-14 last week at Memorial Park. Most importantly, Mitchell gained over four strokes on approach in three of his last four events.

Those outputs came after Mitchell gained at least a stroke per round only once in his first five 2026 events.

In four starts at TPC San Antonio, Mitchell never finished worse than T-26th. He also improved with each appearance, going 26-17-14-12 in those starts.

Entering this event, only four players outpace Mitchell in SG: T2G. Historically, that stat has correlated strongly with success at the Oaks course.

If Mitchell continues that success, he could return players a decent payout without burning a high-profile golfer this week.
