Following PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp’s remarks at the 2026 Players Championship, it seems like the bulk of the schedule changes he and the Future Competition Committee are making will not be implemented until 2028.

PGA Tour 2028 Schedule Changes

It appears there will be two levels of the PGA Tour, one with the bigger events, think PGA Tour signature events, but with 120-player fields and a cut, and then a second level Tour with events on off weeks and the fall.

The two tours will follow a promotion/relegation model.

Rolapp hinted at opening the season big, with an event on the West Coast to finish in primetime on the East Coast. He also indicated the plan is to roughly double the number of signature events. Those plus the four majors, the Players Championship, three playoff events and Ryder Cup/Presidents Cup, add up to a total of between 21-26 events.

That would be the top tier, and then a second tier would run during off weeks and be a strong focus in the fall.

A guess would be that the season would start the weekend prior to the Super Bowl, as that is a bye week and golf wouldn’t go head-to-head with the NFL. It could also then continue with the tradition of having the WM Phoenix Open the week of the Super Bowl.
