One of golf’s toughest tests, the U.S. Open, is set to take place at The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts, after a 34-year hiatus at the venue.
This course is renowned for its unusually petite greens. It also has extremely tight fairways and bodacious boulder outcrops that are tricky to navigate. All in all, it’s going to prove a stern mental and physical test and will make U.S. Open golf betting predictions a tough nut to crack this year.
Justin Thomas is heading to the U.S. Open on a high, following his second major at the PGA Championship in May.
Justin Thomas U.S. Open Golf Odds
Thomas’ odds to win the U.S. Open this year are pretty good at +1200, with only Rory McIlroy (+1100) ahead of him. The odds of him finishing in the top 5 (+250) and top 10 (+125) reflect Thomas’s form this year.
Justin Thomas U.S. Open Golf Analysis
The 29-year-old has been one of the best golfers on the PGA Tour over the last few years. He has 17 career victories and 70 top-10 finishes.
He finally was able to snag his second major when he came from as many as eight strokes down to win the 2022 PGA Championship at Southern Hills last month.
He then missed the cut at Charles Schwab Challenge following his win at Southern Hills; however, he finished third in the RBC Canadian Open last week. Thomas looks like a man on a mission at the moment, and he is in excellent form heading into the U.S. Open this week.
It’s easy to see why he is one of the favorites in the U.S. Open golf odds.
He leads the Tour in both the all-around and bogey avoidance stats and has nine top-10 finishes this season.
The Country Club has particularly challenging greens and tight fairways. This is why Thomas being sixth in Strokes Gained: Approach-the-Green and third in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green are hugely important going into the week.
Thomas is hitting 69.24% of greens in regulation, which puts him 14th, but going off of his display in the final round at the RBC Canadian Open, this shouldn’t be a problem. He hit 9 of 13 fairways and an impressive 15 of 18 greens in regulation. He was also strong on the greens and didn’t miss any putts inside of 10 feet.
The confidence he gained from his last round will be massive going into the U.S. Open.
Justin Thomas U.S. Open Golf Prediction
Admittedly, I have always had a soft spot for Justin Thomas.
Five years was a long time to wait for his next major, but the pressure is now off. Thomas has got his second major under his belt, and I think this will make all the difference.
Is two major titles in one season too much to ask after his long wait? Maybe. But stranger things have certainly happened in golf.
With his form and momentum at the moment, I am pretty happy to put Thomas as the U.S. Open winner on my golf betting card.
