It was a different kind of golf betting this week at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play at Austin Country Club in Austin, Texas.

The tournament wasn’t four days of stroke play with the field, rather five days of match play. The 64 players in the field were broken into 16 pods of four where round-robin matches were played Wednesday-Friday.

Then beginning Saturday morning, the 16 players who won each pod played win-or-go-home matches until a winner was determined.

That turned out to be Scottie Scheffler, who defeated Kevin Kisner in the championship match Sunday afternoon. The 25-year-old went to the University of Texas so he had a strong following all week long.

Scheffler, who is now the world’s No. 1 ranked player, earned $2.1 million, while Kisner earned $1.3 million.

Scheffler entered the week with golf odds to win of +1600.

Prize money payouts for players who did not reach the Round of 16 were determined by points earned in the round-robin format.
