Based on Brighton’s missing attacking pieces and Leeds’ staunch defensive record so far, my Brighton vs Leeds prediction is the Leeds Goal Line (+0.5, -110).

For Brighton to take all three points, one has to buy into an attack missing key pieces.

It’s not unlikely all of Yankuba Minteh, Jack Hinshelwood, Kaoru Mitoma and Georginio Rutter miss Saturday’s match.

While the attack reached 2.7 post-shot xG at Chelsea, it’s worth remembering Brighton trailed 3-0 after 30 minutes. That game state could have seen Chelsea take its foot off the gas.

I question if that happens against a good Leeds defense. On Matchday 2 at Elland Road, Daniel Farke’s side held Brentford to only one post-shot expected goal.

It marked the second straight result for Leeds to start the season. It also continued a strong correlation for the team earning results when the defense performs well.

Dating back to last year, Leeds held its opponents to under 1.5 goals 28 times. Farke’s side failed to take at least a point in only three of those 28 matches.

When Brighton and Leeds met last May at Elland Road, Brighton put forth an odd attacking performance.

The Seagulls reached 3.06 xG on 19 shots, but Brighton’s eight shots on target led to a 0.63 post-shot xG rating. Zero shots on target cleared a 0.2 post-shot xG individual rating.

Brighton posted markedly better attacking metrics at home. The attack reached 3.07 xG and 4.5 post-shot xG. However, it came with Leeds playing a more attack-heavy lineup.

Since last season, Brighton has shown it simply cannot grind out low-scoring games. Only once under Fabian Huerzler has the team won while scoring under 1.5 goals.

As constructed, Brighton lacks the attacking talent to exploit a low block. Accordingly, I predict Leeds takes at least a point from their visit to the Amex on Saturday.
